Dr Chris Phoon

Dr Phoon is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He has been working as a consultant level senior surgeon since 2012. Born in Sydney, and trained in Australia. Dr Phoon has worked in over 40 hospitals, and many orthopaedic departments in New South Wales during training.
Being passionate about rural surgery Dr Phoon initially started practice in the beautiful Sapphire Coast of New South Wales, before moving to even more beautiful Queenstown, in the Southern Alps of New Zealand.

After completing Specialist training Dr Phoon spent the next year working part-time serving the rural community of Dubbo and western New South Wales under the supervision of one of New South Wales most prominent surgeons Dr Stephen Ruff.
Simultaneously Dr Phoon undertook further post-fellowship training at Vincent's public and private hospitals in Sydney in shoulder sports and arthroplasty surgery with Dr Simon Tan and hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty with Dr Stephen Quain.
2005-2012
Orthopaedic training
After four years of orthopaedic registrar experience in various teaching hospitals in New South Wales. Dr Phoon gained a place on the Sydney northside orthopaedic training scheme while working again at St Vincents hospital Sydney. He orthopaedic training with the Australian Orthopaedic association under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of surgeons.
Dr Phoon worked in multiple units, and over 40 hospitals across New South Wales, and in his fellowship year placement was in the prestigous Royal North Shore hand and peripheral nerve surgery unit led by Dr Michael Tonkin.
2003-2004
residency
Dr Phoon started work in the south coast. At the teaching hospital at Wollongong, and rotating through the beautiful areas of Shoalhaven, Bulli and Shellharbour. At this point the decision was made to pursue a career outside of the city.

Dr Phoon earned a undergraduate degree as a medical bachelor and bachelor of surgery, and bachelor of science in medicine from the University of New South Wales. As well as the studies he undertook numerous additional courses in higher mathematics and physics.
He trained in undergraduate years at the prestigous St Vincent's and Mater Hospital In Sydney. As well as numerous rural secondments in New South Wales.

Educated in Shore school (SCEGS) Sydney. Dr Phoon matriculated with university entrance score in the top 1%. He received school prizes in mathematics and Christian studies.
